BREAKING: ALAAFIN OF OYO JOINS ANCESTORS AT 83 Sources from the Ancient Palace of Oyo town say, the highly revered monarch, Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi III has confirmed the demise of the Iku Baba Yeye.  Alaafin died at 83. Alaafin Adeyemi III was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on October 15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House, and as a member of the House of Oranmiyan to Raji Adeniran Adeyemi (born 1871), who later became Alaafin in 1945, and Ibironke of Epo-Gingin. Kaabiesi Lamidi Adeyemi succeeded Alaafin Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II in 1970, during the governorship of Colonel Robert Adeyinka Adebayo, after the end of the Nigerian Civil War.  In 1975, the head of state General Murtala Ramat Muhammed included Oba Adeyemi in his entourage to the hajj.  He was chancellor of Uthman dan Fodiyo University in Sokoto from 1980 to 1992.  In 1990, President Ibrahim Babangida appointed him Amir-ul-Hajj in recognition of his commitment to the consolidation of Islam in Nigeria.

We’ve removed electricity subsidy, we are working on others — FG  The Federal Government has quietly removed subsidy on electricity tariff, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has said. The minister said this while speaking at a visual meeting on Friday, March 11, 2022.  According to her, “We are cleaning up our subsidies. We had a setback, we were to remove fuel subsidy by July this year but there was a lot of pushback from the polity. We have elections coming and because of the hardship that companies and citizens went through during the COVID-19 pandemic, we just felt that the time was not right, so we pulled back on that. But we have been able to quietly implement subsidy removal in the electricity sector and as we speak, we don’t have subsidies in the electricity sector.   The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has said the security situation in Nigeria has improved.  Speaking at an event In Kaduna on Thursday, March 10, Mustapha said insurgency in the north-east and thr#ats of separatists in the south-east have reduced “considerably”, and that over 30,000 insurgents alongside their families have so far surrendered. According to him, “The security situation has relatively improved across all parts of the country. The thr#ats of the separatists in the south-east and parts of south-south geo-political zones have reduced in traction. Our waters are now calm and we no longer receive reports of daily attacks by pirates. Troops of operation Sharan Daji, in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and other intelligence/security and paramilitary agencies, have sustained an onslaught against the criminal elements.”
